Two things you should know about this blog
- We love knitting.
- We also love Harry Potter.
So any time I can bring my love of knitting together with my love for Harry Potter, I think it’s pretty much crafting nirvana.
Because what better way to enjoy watching a Harry Potter movie, or listening to your favorite Wizarding book as an audio recording than to be knitting your very own Harry Potter themed project at the same time? Does it get any better than that?
Which brings me to THIS:
These super cute little knits are designed to be sweaters for your smart phone. Yes. You heard that right. They are sweaters for your phone. Smart phone jumpers for my lovely friends across the pond.
They are shown here in Hogwarts House colors, but you could use any two colors you want. You can think of them as team colors as well. For me, it’s all about Harry Potter and House colors.
It’s July. And all Harry Potter fans know that means it’s Harry’s birthday month. And J.K.’s birthday, which coincidentally is the same day as Harry’s. July 31st. As if that weren’t enough, the first new story in the Harry Potter universe comes out on the 31st AND a new stage play based on the new novel opens in London the same day. So that’s A LOT of new Harry Potter! PLUS……Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes out in November.
What kind of a Harry Potter loving blog would this be without several fun Harry Potter themed posts this month?
And on that note:
So the question that invariably comes up right about now is this. Why knit a sweater for your phone? So delighted you asked!
- A sweater for your phone is a fun and quick project. Watch two movies and you’ve completed your house sweater. Watch them all and by the end of the movie marathon, you can have a sweater that represents each house.
- Knitting a sweater for your phone is a fantastic summer knitting project. It’s small and it’s portable. You can keep your knitting skills sharp without roasting under a blanket or making a hat you can’t wear for another three months.
- If you’ve never tried magic loop, this is a GREAT project to get started with that technique. I do all my in-the-round projects now on magic loop. It changed everything for me and makes hats and fingerless mitts about a 1000 times easier.
- This is a great project to practice stripes and getting a jogless join. Once you’ve knit two or three of these, you will have that down pat.
- The sweater protects the phone from scratches and damage. Let’s be real, people. Smart phones are an investment. The sweater keeps your phone scratch free, and if you drop it, the knitting provides a super nice cushion to protect the screen. I’m not saying it’s going to save your phone if you drop it from a 4th floor balcony, but if you drop it exiting the bus, it’s probably going to be ok.
- Keeping your phone in its sweater makes it about a 1000% easier to locate. The colors jump out, so you can find your phone much easier. If you throw your phone into a large purse or bag of some sort, you will be able to find it EASILY when it’s wearing it’s sweater. Even in crappy light, you will be able to find your phone at the bottom of a large hobo bag if it’s wearing the sweater. Plus, it won’t get scratched while being jostled about in the backpack. - The phone sweater is a fun way to show your house pride. Or team colors if you prefer.
