September Round Up

Most people celebrate their “new year” in January, but I think of September as the start of my new year. I guess because I worked in higher education for so many years, and I still get that Back to School fresh start feeling every September.

September just feels like everything is so full of promise and new beginnings. It seems like the perfect time to set goals and try new things.

Like today’s blog post. I’m trying something new. What is it? My 4th post of the month is going  to be a “Best of the Month” post. I’ll share a picture or two from each post I wrote about in that particular month, and give you links back to the stories.

I’m doing this because:

  1. So many new people are coming to the site, and it can be overwhelming to go through all the archives.
  2. Plus, the truth is this. It takes me a really long time to write and illustrate each post. And it’s preventing me from working on pattern releases and courses and tutorial videos.

I really, really want to launch a video podcast. So I need to get that part of my business going, or quite honestly, there is no business. Since having Pattymac Knits be self sustaining is my dream, I really need to get down to the brass tacks of creating that kind of content. I think you’ll like the the videos I’m planning. But I have to get back some time in my week to make these things happen. I’m only one person! And, let’s face it, I’m not as young as I used to be, so my energy is also not what it used to be.

Let’s start the September Roundup! Shall we?

  1. Meet the KnitBOX

We kicked off the month with an article devoted to the 8 page ebook I created for you that I call the KnitBOX. It’s completely free! It explains the fascinating things on the yarn aisle and what you should add to your collection of knitting tools. Instead of building a tool box, you’re creating a KnitBOX.

Pom pom makes are one of the items I think all knitters should have in their knitting tool kit, or their KnitBOX as I call it. | Pattymac Knits
My favorite item to use in making pom poms.

Why KnitBOX?

I created this ebook to help you figure out what all the cool stuff in the store actually is. I remember how overwhelming it was to walk down the yarn aisles and wonder what the heck everything was for and why I was supposed to have it.

I advocate for a pretty full collection of gadgets and odds and ends. I believe you will wind up using all of it at some point, and plus, half the fun of this hobby called knitting is collecting treasures. I’m sure that’s my inner Magpie talking.

The perfect dish to hold stitch markers comes from Catbird, NY.

Also included in the guide are links to the fun products I curated just for you! Like that lovely trinket dish in the picture above. I LOVE mine!! It’s sooooo cute and comes from Brooklyn. You know you want something that came from Brooklyn.

How do you get your copy of the KnitBOX Getting Started Guide? Just click here, and go sign up for it. That’s all. It will be emailed to you and you can download it to your phone or your computer. Go ahead and request it now. I’ll wait for you here.

The next thing we did was visit one of my favorite places……an LYS!

   2. We talked about the best way to visit a yarn shop and not get totally overwhelmed.

We got to see a bunch of pretty things and talk a little bit about the differences in fiber. If you come to Virginia Beach, you should absolutely visit The Yarn Club. Andrea is the shop owner, and she really has a fantastic selection of yarns for you to enjoy. If you come this way, please email me! I’d love to have a meet up and maybe get some lunch. We can start swatching for the new project we want to make with that gorgeous new yarn.

The calendar might say fall, but the temperatures are still awfully darn warm. At least here in Virginia. So this month’s recipe was for a Frozen Yogurt.

It’s the easiest Frozen dessert you’ll ever make! And so delicious you’ll swear you’re eating full fat ice cream.

Fruit yogurt will get you through the fall and winter. You can use any fruit you like. The key is to roast the fresh fruit or simmer frozen fruit. By cooking the raw fruit with some sugar you open up the flavor and create far more depth than you would by just dumping it raw into the frozen base. It’s an extra step, but so worth it.

I shared my recipe with you, and it’s there for you to download. I even included a shopping list to make it extra easy. This is the perfect excuse to invest in that Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker you’ve had your eye on. I just upgraded mine, and It’s. So. Worth. It.

So there’s September at a glance! We went back to school, had a fun field trip and enjoyed Ice cream. Sounds like a good month to me! And we’re only getting started!!!  If you have something special YOU would like to see, drop me a note in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you!
