With Halloween right around the corner, how could I not share a very special post showing a simple but lovely hand crafted Halloween Costume?
Pair my super cute Foxy Lady Hat Knitting Pattern with the Makeup Tutorial I’m sharing with you today, and you will have the cutest costume on the block! What I love about this is that it can be worn by little girls, teenagers and adults.

Why is a knitting and craft blog sharing a makeup tutorial? Well, honestly, it’s because when I searched for Halloween Makeup for girls on Pinterest I was horrified. The word shocked comes to mind. I can’t believe anybody thinks what turned up in that search is appropriate for children or young girls. (I also think it’s not appropriate for grown women to be wearing, but that’s a topic for a whole other day.)
I’m a big believer in age appropriate clothing and makeup. I do not like to see young girls overly made up. And that includes Halloween costumes.
So when I saw what was available, I knew I could offer something different.

I contacted my friend Megan Bell who does all the makeup and hair styling for me for the blog now. We started working together last year, and I absolutely LOVE her touch. Megan also cuts my hair, which is how I got to know her over the years. I explained my disappointment with what I was seeing online for girls, and Megan agreed. So we came up with this cute fox look as a solution to the nightmare that’s out there.
I knitted a hat especially for this week’s special model, Chloe, from my Foxy Lady Knitting Pattern, so it would fit her perfectly. There’s nothing like knitting a hat to someone’s measurements! I added a special charm that I thought really showed off Chloe’s sweet personality. People don’t think about the fun ways to personalize hats and other knits. There are the coolest jewelry charms at Michael’s and I sewed this one on just for Chloe. She loved it!

Adding the specially designed makeup to the hat and a simple black top perfectly finished the Halloween Look. We were careful to use drugstore products for this design so creating the Fox Look will not break the bank. In fact, you may already have what you need to complete this look on hand.

The biggest thing about this Fox Look is to get the eye liner and nose just right. Megan really put in some thought into this design. It’s so simple that I think even I might be able to do this. I never dress up for Halloween anymore, but I think I can do this. So trust me when I tell you that you can do this either for yourself, or for your little girl or teenager.
I’m not a fan of scary Halloween, which I shared with you last year. I would like to bring back more of a handcrafted feel to the holiday, and I think this is great step in that direction.

Chloe looks perfect to hand out candy to the younger children who will be coming over for Trick or Treat. But she’s still made up enough to attend a party and feel dressed up without being over done. The makeup is easy enough she can touch it up herself as the evening goes on and look as cute at the end as when she arrived.

To make creating this look extra easy for you, I designed a free printable with all the products Megan used and where you can purchase them. I also have a link to my adorable Foxy Lady Hat Pattern. It’s a best seller all year long, but at Halloween it’s even more popular than usual. You can see why! No worries for you as it’s an instant download. I designed it to use craft store products so picking up what you need to make it is easy.
Here’s the Free Printable with all the details! Simply click on the picture below to download yours! And please tag your Halloween photos with #pattymacknits so I can see them on Instagram. If you aren’t following me there, then please do! The details are in the printable.
If you still aren’t convinced you can do this, then I have something else just for you! I created a special video that details the steps in creating this look so you can follow along with Megan as she got Chloe ready for this photo setup. I’m pretty excited about it! It’s the first video I’ve ever done like this, and I’m so, so pleased with how it came out. I’m going to be doing LOTS of video now. please be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel so you never miss an update. (I’m going to be starting up my very own video podcast and creating knitting technique videos and reviews, so you don’t want to miss any of that!)
Without further delay, here’s the full Transformation.
