It’s summer. It’s hot. Who wants to do anything complicated? On top of it all, you’re probably getting a ton of baby shower invitations right about now. Remember all that snow and gunk from last winter? Yeah. Baby Shower invitations usually start arriving 8 months or so after a big winter storm. It’s the result of all that extra time cooped up together. And….I bet you have a few pom poms left over from last week’s project you’d like to put to good use.
So you probably have a couple of baby showers to attend. And, of course, you want to bring a really cute gift. Hand Knit Baby blankets are ALWAYS a hit, but maybe you want to add something a little bit different. Or maybe you don’t feel like knitting at all ’cause it’s just to dang hot. I have a solution for you.
If you made the project from last week, you already have some leftover pom poms. (If you missed that one, then you might want to go check it out.) That’s how this project came to be. I had a bunch of leftover poms after I made up the Luau Party Shirt, and I wanted to do something with them. I thought putting them into glass jars might be cute. So I went back to Michael’s and found these super cute Ice Cream Shop inspired jars. Then I found the birdies in the discount section.
That’s all I needed to make this project. I glued the birds to the top of the jars, and filled the jars with my leftover pom poms. I thought it would be the cutest decoration for a baby’s room. I actually have mine here in the office with me. I really enjoy looking at them!
Here’s your Project List:
- Tall Jar
- Short Jar
- 2 colorful ceramic birdies
- Glue Gun
- Pom Poms (or something colorful to put inside the jars)
To assemble, simply glue gun the birds to the jar lids. That’s all! Full disclosure here. This is not a heavy duty project where you would want to be going in and out of the jars all the the time. The birds adhere to the lid but not enough to handle the usage a cookie or candy jar would get. So keep that in mind. It is, however, adorable to put on a shelf. It brightens up a room, for sure. Some things are just better suited to be purely decorative. This is one of those items.
Now that is a cute project! If you still have the kids in town visiting, you might want to make a set of these together. They can take them back home and put in their rooms where they will have a warm and fuzzy memory of you every time they look at the jars. Because you can select your yarn colors for the pom poms and pick out your own combination of jars and toppers, it can be a super customized project. It can also teach kids that not everything is meant to be man handled, and they will have to be careful with it to keep it together. I don’t think kids get that lesson often enough now. Not everything is disposable, you know?
I love to come up with super simple and inexpensive projects. They look cute in my house, and I always feel happy when I look that them. How can you not smile at a sweet birdie jar?

This project is very similar to my Springtime Birdie Jars project. I have that project in my kitchen window. This Baby Loves Birdie Jars project feels right at home in my office. I think you could even take them to your work and dress up a bland cubicle. I had a job like that recently, and it was a task to bring personality into that drab space. If I had made the jars then, I definitely would have taken them to my office.
But really, I designed them with a baby’s nursery in mind. I expect Baby Shower invites any day now, so I’m already thinking about what I want to bring as my gift. Probably a hand knit baby blanket and a set of these adorable jars. I’ll let you know!
