Did somebody say Ice Cream Sandwich?
It’s been a busy summer here on the blog! Whew. Originally I thought I would only post every two weeks this summer, but the ideas kept coming and before I knew it, I had a filled content calendar. I actually had to bump about a half dozen things I wanted to do, because I just didn’t have time or space to do it all. I can only produce one really good blog post a week, so I often have to postpone some ideas if I dream up something else that seems even more stellar. Which is how today’s recipe post came to be. Meet the ice cream sandwich of your dreams. Which is why I named this recipe the Supermodel Ice Cream Sandwich.
Hello Lover.

Do I have your undivided attention? If the answer is, “No. Not interested.” Then I think you better get your pulse checked. Or maybe find a different blog to read. ‘Cause I’ve never met anyone who crafts that doesn’t love treats. I read quite a few other craft blogs, and some of them are HUGE!!!! 10’s of 1000s of followers and monthly impressions. They all show sweets for recipes. Here’s the thing. It’s full of food coloring and overly sweet crap I wouldn’t even allow into my grocery cart much less in my mouth.
When did we equate artificial with good?
The thing of it is this. All those food dyes and fake food products are so heavily processed that it’s pretty much toxic for your body. Did you know food coloring is derived from petroleum products? Or crushed up beetles? True story. Who wants THAT in their food? I certainly do not! Why would we think all that artificial food is pretty to look at, when something made from natural ingredients looks like THIS:

Here’s the deal. I do a lot of my cooking from scratch. All my sweets and desserts are scratch made by me, or they are not allowed. That’s the deal I made with myself. Sugar is not something any of us need. Nobody needs anything sweet. But we love it. I do any way. My day doesn’t feel complete if I don’t get a taste of something.
I like knowing what goes into my food, and by default, into my body. It matters. So I’m going to be the craft blog that shares delectable recipes you can make yourself and not feel like you’re consuming a toxic waste dump in the process.
Which leads us to today’s recipe. My famous Chocolate Chip Cookies. They are totally amazing. And I’m going to share with you how I make them.
The secret to these cookies are in the ingredients. I have a VERY specific set of ingredients that I use to make them. You can use any old stuff you like and follow the recipe, by you will not replicate this cookie. And if you’re going to trouble of making them, why wouldn’t you use the best ingredients possible?
The small choices we make every day add up to big impacts. So start small, and witness the huge changes in your life.
Yes, something as small as reducing food coloring in your diet by making your own cookies matters a great deal both to your own health and the health of our precious planet.
Ok…enough serious talk. Let’s have another look at Cookies…..well actually it’s an ice cream sandwich. I think that’s the perfect treat for this time of year. Imagine dangling your feet in the pool while you enjoy one of these delicious babies. Talk about a Staycation.

Here’s my ingredient list using the brand names I recommend:
- King Arthur Flour
- Kerry Gold Unsalted Butter
- Organic Free Range Eggs
- Organic Sugars (I like the 365 brand from Whole Food)
- Baking Soda (Also 365 Brand from Whole Food)
- Fleur de Sel Salt from Trader Joe
- Guittard Chocolate Chips ( I use a combo of dark, milk, and white chocolate chips)
- Vanilla Bean Paste
- ***my secret ingredient you only get if you download the recipe
I told you I was really specific. If you don’t know about King Arthur Flour, then Oh My Goodness……you have been missing out. Totally amazing products. I cannot say enough great things about them. So King Arthur, if you’re listening, I love you. The Guittard chocolate is something I found in Whole Foods. It’s made in San Fransisco and the only chocolate I can find without added Soy. The taste is unreal. Sooooo good. You realize what chocolate is supposed to taste like. (and it’s not like that popular brand in the bright yellow bag). If you are unfamiliar with the salt, then you must get some! I use only this in all my baking. It’s very special and adds the most delicious flavor.
And look at how pretty the container is.
Isn’t that sooooo pretty? It’s unlike other salt you will have used, so give it a go.
I made these delicious cookies and used my now famous Butterbeer Ice cream with a dollop of Butterscotch sauce to make these delectable (and grownup) ice cream sandwiches. Though the kids I have tried these out on have gone crazy for them. CRAZY. They actually put their phones down and stopped talking the whole time they were eating these! So while you’re enjoying the last of the summer weather and getting in those small summer knits (iPhone sweaters anyone?) try out these fabulous Ice Cream Sandwiches. I know you won’t be disappointed.

So if you’ve made it this far, you are about to be rewarded! Click on the picture below to download my Supermodel Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe.
