Topsy Turvy Easter Bunny Tutorial

Do you ever browse those gorgeous projects on Pinterest and wonder if any of them are actually doable for an ordinary person? I certainly do! From my experiments, I find that a lot of them are not. A bunch of that stuff seems to be made by Home Ec majors from Martha Stewart University. And who the heck besides Martha can make that stuff?

Even worse, I find a lot of the pins don’t even lead to a clear explanation of how to make the thing. That pisses me off. It seems worse when it comes to recipes than DIY, but still, I find that sometimes I have to spend a lot of time trying to track down how to actually make the thing.

If you are left to figure it out for yourself, then in my mind, that’s kind of a crappy tutorial!

A couple of weeks ago I shared my Springtime Birdie Jars that I made based on a Pinterest tutorial. And they came out great! If you missed that one, you might want to go back and have a read. The only thing you need to know how to do is use a glue gun. It doesn’t get easier than that! What’s that? You haven’t used a glue gun? Well, then the Springtime Birdie Jars are your perfect first dip in the DIY Craft Project Pond. (FYI: They would be absolute perfection for a baby’s nursery. Take those to your next baby shower and be prepared for the accolades you’re gonna receive.)

Today’s tutorial post is only slightly more complicated. For this darling Topsy Turvy Bunny, you will have to make some pom poms, cut out the feet and paw pads and finally glue it all together. Don’t worry, because I made a printable just for you that has all the directions.

Could this bunny be any cuter?

So you know how I feel about Pom Poms. Yes you can summon up all manner of free gadgets to create your pom poms. You can even use a fork tine to make the little ones. But, if you want to have really even and consistent pom poms, nothing beats a Clover Pom Pom maker. They are sitting in the yarn aisle at Michael’s right this minute! Go get a set. You can pick them up while you’re picking up your yarn and felt for this project.

Since I have loads of pom pom crafts planned for you, you are going to want to have a set on hand! You won’t believe all the fun things we are going to make with pom poms!

I love that the daffodils are blooming!

Make a few of these sweet bunnies in different colors and place them along with the Easter Eggs for children to find. If I had found something like this on Easter Morning with my Robin’s Eggs, I would have been absolutely over joyed. In 20 minutes or less, you can create your very own Topsy Turvy Bunny!

These bunnies can be placed anywhere!

I know I’m partial here, but I think this bunny beats the Elf on a Shelf idea all the way to the North Pole and back!

This little cotton tail bunny is not going to creep anyone out! And if it does, do you really think you should  keep that person on your friend list?

As promised here’s the  Topsy Turvy Bunny Tutorial I mentioned to you earlier in the post. Print it out and you can cut out the feet and paw pads to use as a traceable pattern on the felt.

The easiest way I’ve found to manage gluing on little bits like the paw pads to the feet and the feet to the body is this. Get an old plastic top to a yogurt container or something. Squeeze out a bit of glue on the lid and then use the tip of a toothpick to apply the glue. It’s much neater than trying to squeeze the glue right onto something small. Plus, you can spread the glue out in an even layer so more of the felt will adhere to the pom pom.

If you get stuck (ha ha), drop me an email. I’ll help you get through the bunny project. Please share what you make! I’d love to see them. Tag me on Instagram @pattymacknits or let’s put them on the Facebook page.

Look what’s coming up later!

Be sure to stayed tuned, because next week, I’m going to share another Easter Themed tutorial on these bunny friends of Topsy Turvy. What can I say. I went a little bunny crazy over here the past week. My photo assistant and I had a great time making them! They are a little more involved than the Topsy Turvy Bunny, but don’t worry. I have a great tutorial coming just for you!
