Just about nothing makes me happier than when I see those daffodils blooming in early March. It’s amazing how they just instinctively know when to send up their tender green shoots and share those buttery yellow flowers with all the world. Even though it may not feel like spring, those daffodils let us know not to worry. Spring is coming whether we believe it or not.
And with Spring, we get to enjoy Easter! I love the Easter holiday. Flowers are everywhere! The days are longer and we know that winter is definitely on the way outta here! Plus, Easter Candy.
You can’t have Easter without Bunnies and Easter Eggs!
What would be the point? Today’s blog post is all about just that: Easter Bunnies and plenty of Easter Eggs. I’m going to show you some super cute pom pom Easter Bunny toys I made and where I found the original tutorial.
Pom pom bunnies are a very old craft. And since March is National Crafting Month, these bunnies are perfect. People have talked about making this bunny craft with their grandmas. And one grandma was born in 1910, so this bunny has been around for a long time.
I have talked with you before about how knitting connects us to other crafters. In doing those same steps, we are creating a bridge across time that allows us to experience something that someone else did decades (or centuries) before. I think that’s amazing.
We have a shared experience when we craft together, & in this world of iPhone isolation, that's amazing.

We also have a shared experience with all the people who have made the item in other times and places. Think about that. It’s like all of us are sitting together at a giant table making projects together. And even though we follow a pattern, there are no two identical pieces.
I could go on all day waxing philosophical about knitting and crafting, but I won’t! Let’s get to those cute bunnies, shall we?

Remember how I told you in my last post about the Topsy Turvy Bunny that I was going Bunny Crazy over here? Yeah. This is what I mean.
This is another project that grew out of something I found on Pinterest. I had to really do some digging to track down the original tutorial for these little bunnies! But it was worth it! The instructions are great, and I had so much fun making these little Easter Rabbits.

This was not an especially fast moving project. It took me two afternoons of crafting to make all the bunnies. So you don’t want to wait until an hour before the Easter Egg hunt to start on these.
My photo assistant made the white one, second from the right. Between boys stopping by to hassle us and all the texting she was doing, it took her about 2 hours to get her bunny all done. Still, she did finish him, and I thought he came out great.

It took some doing to get the whiskers in the nose and the face glued on. Well worth it as far as I’m concerned. This would be a great addition to a child’s Easter Basket. Or place a couple of these around the house for the morning Easter Egg Hunt. Putting the face together is not appropriate for little children, but they could certainly help with making the pom poms and gluing on the cotton tail.

Here’s your supply list:
- Chunky Yarn
- Pom Pom Makers
- Good Scissors. This is a lot of cutting and you will thank me for recommending good sewing scissors.
- Felt in a color close to your yarn color
- Felt in pink for the inside of the bunny ears
- Wooden beads for the nose. I liked the big pink nose.
- Bag of ready made white pom poms for the cotton tails.
- Tacky Glue
- Beads for the eyes. I used shiny “E” beads which are a little small. I definitely like the shiny, because the eyes didn’t get lost in the pom pom.
- Whiskers. I used Nylon String for this.
Here’s a photo tutorial of what I did to make the bunnies.

Have some fun with this project. I know I did. In fact, I think I’m going to enjoy this beautiful spring afternoon and make a few more Bunnies while munching on the Easter Candy I bought for props. I really can’t think of a better way to spend the day!
